In a work brimming with fresh insights about contemporary American food media and culture, Contois shows how the gendered world of food production and consumption has influenced the way we eat and how food itself is central to the contest over our identities.
My incredible professor reached out to me to create special edition postcards for all the folks who preordered her new book. Working closely with Contois throughout the process, I developed illustrations that told a visual story of Diners, Dudes & Diets.
Inspired by the concept of Easter eggs (the hidden messages kind, not the ones with candy), the design for this postcard was born.
Each chapter title was turned into an illustration element and placed throughout the card, serving as a visual table of contents.
More plants is never a bad idea, right?
We thought so, which is why in this illustration you'll find a fridge overflowing with food and flora. By remixing the book's content about food and gender, this creation pulls in the idea of food production and the ways it shapes the way we eat.
